Reuters—Delta Air Lines Inc. () on Monday emerged from bankruptcy after a 19-month restructuring that resulted in $3 billion in annual financial improvements, the third-largest U.S. airline said.

Delta will take a $2.5 billion exit-financing facility to repay the company’s $2.1 billion debtor-in-possession credit facilities and make other payments required upon exit from bankruptcy, said in a statement.

A U.S. court had on April 25 given the airline the go-ahead to exit bankruptcy at the end of this month.

“Through our restructuring we have successfully repaired our balance sheet, improved the customer experience, expanded our international route system and built a platform for future success,” Chief Executive Gerald Grinstein said in the statement.

Delta’s restructuring is projected to more than halve its net debt to $7.6 billion at the end of 2007 from $16.9 billion at June 30, 2005, it said.

The company will issue new common shares in payment of bankruptcy claims and as part of a post-emergence compensation program for Delta employees, the airline said.

Regular trading in the new stock is expected to begin on the on May 3 under the symbol “DAL.”

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (), operator of and discount stores, said Wednesday its computer systems were hacked late last year and customer data has been stolen.

The company said the full extent of the intrusion is not yet known, but it is conducting a full investigation.

The hackers broke into a system that handles credit and debit card transactions, as well as checks and merchandise returns for customers in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and may also involve customers of T.J. Maxx stores in the U.K. and Ireland.

The break-in was discovered in mid-December, but was kept confidential upon the request of law enforcement officials.

TJX said it has hired General Dynamics Corp. () and IBM Corp. () to upgrade its security system.

BCE Inc. shares slipped Monday, a day after the telecom giant said it hopes to have a strategic review, which could include the sale or privatization of the company, finished by the end of September.

The stock was off 50 cents at $38.25 in early afternoon trading on the TSX.

On Sunday, BCE said it will open an electronic data room this week for potential bidders.

In a release, the company signalled it is looking for multiple bidders.

“We recognize the challenge presented by the fact that the government of Canada’s foreign ownership rules will limit the role that large non-Canadian sources of equity can play in enabling this competition,” said Donna Soble Kaufman, who is chairing the committee of independent board members overseeing the review.

“For that reason, our goal from the beginning has been to foster a competitive process by seeking to ensure that no one party is able to assemble a disproportionate share of available Canadian equity,” she said.

BCE’s board of directors said any potential bidders must be able to prove they have the financial capacity for a deal of this size and complexity.

Based on Monday’s share trading, BCE’s market capitalization is about $31.03 billion.

The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, the independent investment arm of the CPP, isone of the potential bidders.

BCE has confirmed it is in talks with a CPPIB-led consortium that includesQuebec’s public pension fund (theCaisse de dpt et placement du Qubec), the Public Sector Pension Investment Board and theU.S.-based buyout firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, which is already BCE’s biggest shareholder, has said it may make an offer for the company.
